Understanding Groundwater Law

This course provides an overview of the laws relating to groundwater resources in Australia with a particular emphasis on the regulatory and policy frameworks that regulate groundwater extraction, use and management at the Federal and State level. It also addresses the challenges associated with the development of catchment management systems and the concept of environmental flows.

The course will provide important insights into the application of groundwater law in key areas such as groundwater trading, mining and coal seam gas extraction. It also examines recent case law developments that will have important implications for:

  • Government agencies that undertake environmental planning and assessments and the entities that seek to rely on the subsequent approvals; and
  • The process and methods through which coal seam gas and mining projects are assessed and
    conditioned.

On completion of this course attendees can expect to be more confident in their ability to understand and apply the concepts, frameworks and policy tools that inform that management of Australian
groundwater resources.

This course has been designed for the broad range of professionals working in the environmental science, planning, policy and engineering fields. It also provides an excellent introduction for legal
practitioners wishing to broaden their understanding of groundwater law.

Course Fee (incl GST)

  • AWA member AU$1500
    Non-member AU$1650
Student AU$750 (Please supply copy of student card)
