Water Economics and Policy
Description
The Water Economics and Policy course explores the different types of values associated with water and provides an overview of the methods used by economists to value water resources and the environment that depends upon that water. It examines the governance tools available for managing water, along with the complex and interrelated interests surrounding water use.
A particular focus is placed on economic instruments for water management—such as pricing, allocation, and trade—illustrated through a range of case studies. Case studies include the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, groundwater-surface water interactions, water markets in Australia, and the value of water in different contexts.
